We adopted our dog Scout a year ago after he spent over a year and a half in a rescue shelter. He was a sweet boy with very little training and high separation anxiety. Once we got him home, we found he was leash reactive and couldn't be left at home alone - significantly limiting our ability to leave the house. We worked with a couple of different trainers but realize we needed something more intensive and were recommended to Josh.
Josh worked us to understand dog psychology and communication and gave us the tools to work effectively with Scout. Once he was home we saw a noticeable change in how he responded to the outside world. We saw significant change in his confidence levels - he was easier to walk, we could take him to more public places, he was calmer and more focused, allowing him to spend more time alone comfortably.
We are grateful for Josh's training and guidance and helping to get us on the right track with Scout. We would definitely recommend him for anybody who needs extra support with their pup, especially a rescue dog that may come with some trauma. - Jonathan C··from Google
We had excellent results with Josh! Our dog, Nala was initially scared of everything, mildly reactive to people, and quite obstinate. With Josh’s help, Nala has become a happy, confident dog who is very responsive to commands! We would hire him again!

I am so grateful to Joshua for being generous with his time and expertise working with myself, my 8-year-old daughter, and my 5-month-old puppy. We adopted our adorable Coconut when he was just 12 weeks old. I found that he was the friendliest dog ever to fellow humans and dogs; however, he wanted to nip constantly. He was always trying to pull the shirts and pants off friends and family. He even enjoyed biting me in the butt if I turned away from him. This was simply not acceptable behavior, and I was worried that as he became mature this would transform into something much more aggressive and violent. I was told when I adopted him that he was a Mountain Cur, which is a "breed" of dog from the southwest used for ranching and makes a great family dog. However, when I looked online, he didn't look like any Mountain Curs I found there. Curious, I did a DNA My Dog test, and found he was actually an American Pit Bull, Rottweiller, Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Dog mix. I felt this dog, being a mix of these breeds, would need a much firmer handler than myself and my little girl. I was actually considering re-homing this dog with someone who would be able to handle him better than I could. I was referred to Joshua because I really wanted to keep Coconut, and my daughter was completely against the idea of giving up on her puppy. We called Heel and Heal, and Joshua put us immediately at ease. He confidently let us know that he would be able to, in two sessions, give us all the skills we would need to ensure Coconut would turn into a great family dog, with the right tools. With Joshua's guidance, we indeed were able to incorporate his recommendations into our daily schedule and interact with Coconut in a way that kept everyone safe and quickly put an end to his nipping. He is even more loveable because he is such a well-behaved dog now! Thank you again Joshua, and we appreciate all the extra materials regarding how to teach and care for dogs on your site and blog!
